| From Lauren_Week2 |
Lauren's second week in the world started with the surprise trip of Grandad Hugh. We colluded during Nicola's stay in hospital and planned to surprise her with his arrival. The fly in the ointment was that he arrived at 6.45am which was going to make it difficult to come up with an alibi for not being at home. So I broke the news to Nicola on Sunday and recorded it for Hugh. Then I was off to the airport Monday morning to collect him from the airport.
Hugh was the picture of excitement and couldn't wait to get to our apartment to see his daughter and meet Lauren. He quickly fell head over heels in love with his granddaughter and I'm pretty sure the feeling was mutual. Although the days weren't exactly filled with sightseeing, which is a shame given it was Hugh's first visit downunder, we still managed to get out and about a bit. We took him down to the Botannical Gardens and the Opera House, out to Bondi for lunch and of course to Westfield Bondi Junction. But he wasn't bothered, Hugh was quite happy sitting at the apartment with his new best friend nestled into his neck recovering from her latest bout of hiccups.
In the middle of the week, Nicola went back into the hospital for a breast feeding clinic to make sure Lauren was feeding correctly. While she was there they weighed her again and found out she was back to her birth weight which was great news. So that meant that we could stop supplementing her with formula at every feed and now only needed to do so at every other feed.
Hugh was the the first of the family to arrive, but he certainly won't be the last. On Saturday Sue and Paul arrived and promptly kicked Hugh out of his bed.
"I've had this bed booked since last February" joked Sue.
So the weekend was filled with the English grandparents grappling for time with little Lauren. Fine by me...it meant more people to help out and before the weekend was over Sue had already ironed all my shirts for work the following week.
